During the year 2015 -16, fifteen (15 ) capacity building training programme were held at Barasat Employment Exchange Office in the district of North 24 Parganas . About two hundred and fifty (250) women domestic workers participated in the programme.They were given an honorarium of Rs 200 ( 2 days) as travelling allowance. After the completion of programme, a certificate was given to the participants on behalf of Labour Department, Govt of West Bengal. A list of 45 domestic workers was submitted to the District Employment Exchange Officer , Barasat, North 24 Parganas.
Since inception, we have always been trying to raise our voice against the deprivation of women’s rights in the society. Our community leaders were also able to play a very vital role to prevent the atrocities on women specially among the unorganized sector during the year 2015-16 . Our community leaders rushed to the spot, whenever they were informed about the incident on domestic violence or any other atrocities on women in our working areas. During the year 2015-16, 13 such cases were handled by our community leaders in the local areas under Barasat Municipalities and under Chandpara Gram Panchayat of North 24 Parganas district.
The organization participated in the Research programme on domestic workers conducted by the Women Study Centre , Jadabpur University , Kolkata. Our community leaders helped the researchers to facilitate their survey work on domestic workers. They also participated in the seminar held by the Women Study Centre and shared their working experience.
Our trained community leaders are the best human resource for the organization. They are very active and sincere. Their spirit of volunteerism inspire the community people. So large number of community people participate in the programme. Some of our executive members are also very active. But financial position of the organization is very weak. Being a non- funded organization it is difficult for us to work in the vulnerable areas in a large scale. The organization is entirely depend on donations from friends and well-wishers. Our community leaders and volunteers has been working with us for long time ignoring the adverse situation.
Our community leaders observed Republic Day on January 26 and Independence Day on August 15 as usual.The community feast was arranged at Mondalpara under Gaighata block of North 24 Parganas district on January 26. The celebration programme includes songs, recitation by the children of the community, discussion on project activities, grievances of beneficiaries etc. About 650 people participated in the community feast.
The Samity observed June 16 as ‘World Domestic Worker Day’ networking with some other similar organization under the banner of ‘Samajik Suraksha Abhijan ‘. A big rally was organized in Kolkata on this occasion. About 1600 domestic workers participated in the rally. A massive campaign programme was organized jointly by the network organization at Barasat, Bongaon, Basirhat under North 24 Parganas district and Baruipur, Sonarpur under South 24 Parganas district. The prime objective of the campaign programme was to make the unorganized sector workers aware on Social Security Schemes. A postcard campaign programme was also held and about 500 unorganised sector workers sent postcards to the Prime Minister demanding the implementation of Social Security Schemes.
The organization has been working on P D S for the last ten years to cope with certain irregularities of ration dealers and to raise the voice of beneficiaries against the supply of low quality food grains which was not fit for human consumption. With the intervention of our community leaders five beneficiaries of Mondalpara gram sangsad under Chandpara gram panchayat in North 24 Parganas district , who were deprived from food grains under PDS were able to get their allotment from the concerned ration dealers. Our community leaders also assisted 35 farmers to participate in the camp, organized by the state agriculture department for the purchase of paddy at the rate fixed by the government. The small farmers were benefitted from this camp.
Our community leaders participated in several seminar and workshops on women atrocities and sexual harassment at work place organized by the network. Our stand on this issue was appreciated by the network organization.

Out of thirteen (13) cases amicable settlement were made between the husband and wife through Salishi in eleven (11) cases and the remaining two( 2) cases were also solved with the intervention of local police station. In all these cases we were able to establish the rights of women and were able to stop the atrocities on women totally.

The unorganized women workers under MGNREGA of chandpara GP under gaighata block of north 24 parganas and hundreds of domestic workers under 26 number ward of barasat municipality has been able to build up their own committee named " Nari Jagoron Committee" to protest against the gender based violence, atrocities on women, early marriage, dowry system,anti liquor campaign etc. The are now efficiently handling cases on early marriage, domestic violence with the help of local administration in a organized way.
One significant achievement has been the emergence of a networking platform of three likeminded voluntary organizations to build up the GRIHA PORICHARIKA SAMITY (GPS), an independent organaization of domestic workers to run their activities followed by the enrollment of membership, collection of subscription and donation, implementing organizational activities.
Due to successful campaign in our campaign areas, mostly in the rural areas of north & south 24 pgs .Large number of poor women (around 2000) actively participated in the rural employment programme (MGNREGA) on a regular basis to improve their livelihood. it is also wroth mentioning that in Chandpara Gram Panchayat under Gaighata Block One women from 254 families have been provided 100 days job within the period from April 2011 to march 2016.
On e of the most important duty of PROTIKAR as of now that to inform all unorganized workers in their working areas. generally they organizes tiny camps in locality and helps unorganized workers to know their facilities given by the Govt. Of West Bengal named SASPFUW ( State Assisted Scheme of Provident Fund For Unorganized Workers). Protikar helps them to enroll in capable schemes with the help of Labour Department, Govt. of West Bengal
The organization is working and helping the domestic workers in urban areas of West Bengal.....mostly in North and south 24 Parganas...now the domestic worker is in a big unity and they talked with labour minister about their claims....they want medical emergency kit in every working place, they want to keep himself safe from sextual harrassment in working place...and proper pay scale for each domestic workers...
